It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
